Staying on Track with your Medications During the Holiday Season

Posted Jan 24th, 2012 by Patient Assistance Team

We all know how tough it is to adhere to our usual health routines during the holiday season. Regular exercise, starting the day with a healthy breakfast and clocking in at least seven hours of sleep a night might be routine for us throughout most of the year, but when the holidays hit, many our healthy ways take a backseat to too many gingerbread cookies, skipped gym days and staying out too late.

But one healthy routine that cannot be disregarded during the holiday season is taking your medications daily and on time.

Amid the hustle and bustle of the season, follow these strategies for a safe and healthy holiday month.

  1. Make sure you don’t run out of your medication. If you’re out for a quick errand to pick more wrapping paper, why not pick up your prescription for the month? It is convenient and it can save you your health.
  2. Even if you sleep in after a late-night holiday party, always take your medication every day. If you are uncertain if the change in when you take them will affect your health, ask your pharmacist.
  3. Never mix alcohol with your prescription medications. The combination of festive spirits and medication is extremely dangerous and can lead to disastrous consequences.

If you need extra support in remembering to stick to your medication routine this holiday season, work with your medical doctor. He or she can help you find the support you need to stay healthy and organized this holiday season.
